Dear All:
Below is the Eulogy for Rob...
Jan 8, 2009 In Memory to Rob 1951 - 2009
To all the friends, relatives and family that have come down today, I would like to express a thank you from our family to all of you whom have come to pay your last respects to my brother, Rob.
It was just about a year ago that Rob was diagnosed with cancer, in stage 4.., words I were not so familiar with as cancer had not been apart of any of our immediate family. Yet at the beginning I can remember Rob saying, "..I can deal with this".
I always looked up to Rob ever since we were just kids playing around in the house. I can remember him showing me magic tricks with playing cards, playing board games like Monopoly and Life, playing a family game of majoong.., Rob always had a drive to win. And sometimes this drive to win was at all costs, where he would get angry and say words I believe he really didn't mean.
But there also was a different side Rob had, he loved all kinds of gadgets, had to be the first in getting new electronic technology, his love for music and playing the guitar, and most important his love for the game of tennis. He would talk proudly of his trophies and tournaments he participated in, but he also spoke with passion about the people he met through tennis, the friendships he encountered, the people he was able to share life with.
And to me.., Rob was my older brother, taught me how to drive my first car, always beat me in chest when we were kids, spent countless hours showing me how to play guitar and sing, and most important, would share and let me play with any of his toys and gadgets.
Rob also had his love for family, the times and stories shared with his ten brothers and sisters, the hours shared with his nephews and nieces playing games, and most importantly.., his love for his family, Della and Niki. He once told me.., without Della that he would be nothing. And about Niki.., it was 26 years ago he proudly asked me to be Niki's godfather.
On one of my late visits to Rob in the hospital just last week, he was talking to my sister, and standing behind I overheard him say in a whispering voice.., "..why me ?".
I turned away, drove home that night.., and kissed my daughter's cheek as she laid asleep in bed.
Rob, we will all miss you and will treasure the times shared with you...
Bye for now.., Alex
